What is Huchuy Qosqo?

Huchuy Qosqo, or caixa jaquijahuana, means place from where you can see the lightning and listen the sound of the, chuki inti illapa god, this town and temples were built on the XV century by the 9th ruler named Wiracocha, He wanted to recreate a town similar to Cusco  in its significance, which means you will find here high wuality architectural walls, several temples, plazas and homes, town that recently has being excavated and restored by Cusco ministry of Culture.

The hike from the beginning to end, passes by several micro climates, which provides scenic and unique views, perfect to see the change of varieties of flora, showing ornamental and medicina plants, with nice blooms even during the dry season, the trail begins at 3.750mt, 12,303ft, at the summit it reaches 4,350 mt 14,271 ft, then we descend to the camp site, at 3600mt. The night feels fresh and very quiet.

Where do we start the huchuy qosqo hike?

For this hike we offer to optional starting points, if you stay in cusco city, we advise to start at qoricocha, a nice lagoon with legends in its background, nice wide view, while the option for hikers staying at the sacred valley is Chinchero, and start the at taucca community, and follow an old inca trail that passes by small farms and also we’ll have the opportunity to see lagoos, an inca site before reaching Huchuy Qosqo and nice flora and Fauna.

The most common fauna along the trail are llamas, alpacas, some sea gulls, Andean goose, sparrows, turdus zorzal, cara cara eagles, sparrows, and many others.

Itinerary

Day 01: Coricocha – Leon Punku canyon – Huchuy Qosqo.

06:00 hrs. Depart Cusco and drive toward Cori qocha.

07:30 hrs start hiking passing by the lake, then reach the trail summit at 10:30 hrs.

11:00 hrs, take downhill trail to Puka marka and stop for lunch at 12:30 hrs.

13:30 hrs visit the small inca site and walk towards the canyon.

16:00 hrs, arrive to Huchuy Qosqo and spend the night under bright stars, above the sacred valley.

At 06:00 hrs wake up.

07:00 hrs have breakfast.

08:00 hrs do a guided tour and walk around Huchuy Qosqo inca city.

09:30 hrs deapr from Huchuy Qosqo towards the sacred valley.

12:00 Meet up our transport and drive to lamay and have our luxury picnic lunch.

13:30 ours leave lamay, drive to Cusco city arriving at 15:00 hrs.
